On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla presented an official reply to the allegations spread by several media sources in Panama. These reports have been described as calculated assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.
Carlos Carillo, a representative of Castillo’s legal group, remarked: “The claims lack substance and are intended to hinder the professional trajectory of a young lawyer, along with her associate, for the benefit of undisclosed financial motives.”
The Protection of Odila Castillo
The defense underscored that this is not the inaugural occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news source inaccurately claimed that the attorney had been arrested regarding an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, making it clear that it had no connection to the current issues.
At the press conference, the defense claimed that both the recent accusations and those from 2021 are based on half-truths, intended to compromise her professional career.
Moreover, they argued that the details disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media breach the tenets of confidentiality. They made it clear that a portion of the investigation originated from a resolved family issue, while another facet pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information acquired through improper means.
Odila Castillo’s Illegal Surveillance
The defense further claimed that Castillo has been under GPS tracking, representing a type of illegal surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The core rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all required legal measures to determine accountability for the harm suffered and any that may be imposed.”
